First, let me get this out of the way; Todd Akin is a fucking idiot. He probably should be crowned with the title “Idiot of the Year” but we stopped doing that because it was too difficult to choose.
His words fully illustrate the stupidity of not just the majority of the Republican Party but of nearly all of the fuckers that are running regardless of which side of the isle they sit. We have a government full of out of touch, career politicians with no more sense than this asshole and for some reason, we just keep electing them and then bitching when it doesn’t work out.
No one can be surprised by his comments or his take on the subject of abortion. Look at his background; he has a Masters of Divinity, which is like the new prerequesite for being a republican.
I don’t know about you, but I DO NOT WANT RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS MAKING MY LAWS. Religion (and not spirituality mind you) is the root of an assinine statement like: “It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, [rape resulting in pregnancy is] really rare,” Akin said in an interview with KTVI-TV. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something, I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child.”
Only religious thought and miseducation creates ridiculous misconceptions like that. This kind of thinking is what has hampered stem cell research funding as well. Remember that women and people of color were once considered sub-human based on religious beliefs as well in this country.
Gotta love religion (and you know which ones I’m talking about)!
The funny thing is now that he has outted himself as being completely out of touch with realty, there are Tea Party members that are calling for him to quit and I think I know why; he has outted them all as morons.
By the way I did a little digging around and did find some crazy bullshit that attempts to support this on a site called Physicians for Life. You can read the double-speak here: http://www.physiciansforlife.org/content/view/492/26/
I have read numerous comments on social media about Akins words but what no one seems to be advocating is that his newly coined phrase “legitimate rape” should be part the new slogan for the Libertarian Party. I envision something like; “Vote Libertarian and Stop Partisan Legitimate Rape of Our Country”, or something. (I’m not in advertising so shut up.)
